Travel Tracer
This role requires students review a section of their reading and trace the series of scenes and events. Students indicate to their peers were the story action begins, what the key events are and where events end. They are also responsible for describing the location of the setting. Students can choose to describe geographical details mentioned in the book with words, maps, or diagrams. The goal is to provide fellow students with the necessary background information to better understand story events and visualize text.
The integration of the Internet within most e-readers provides a unique opportunity to conduct seamless background checks. The dictionary function within many e-book libraries includes an option select text and then quickly links the reader to sights through Safari, Google, or Wikipedia. There are also many reference apps available that can also assist with research. This newfound convenience does require that students develop the ability to think critically about the content they find online, and know how to test the reliability of a site. Reading on the iPad provides students with endless ways to create dynamic presentations during group discussion. Students can choose whether to annotate a map, create a diagram, animation, screencast, or even a quick movie. The world is literally at their fingertip!
